I have not used Davinci resolve for layered tracks much. This is a pretty simple task in Premiere but I believe the keying in resolve is much better. Is there a straight forward way of letting your bottom layer come through to where you key your image?

    Hi,

Resolve is not a compositing tool, so you will achieve much better results by using an another software. Smoke, AE etc.

Thanks for the reply. This saved me a lot of time.

Actually you can stack the layers… use a qualifier to create a key and then feed that key into an Alpha Out on a clip. There by revealing what’s underneath. But you are still probably better off on a true compositing app. Though this is a good way of creating a rough composite in order to better balance the colors.

No kidding. Not to mention being able to use the plugin in a node and generate some mattes… So use a great keyer as a compliment to the qualifier. Hopefully in the future, they have listened to many of our requests in the past.

I totally agree on that one…
I think the biggest benefit for most of the people joining the game these days would be to finish the piece IN Resolve and not having to go back to their Premiere or AVID or FCP.
Personally I dont see much use in going back, but thats because I am either getting 15 shot commercials with tons of effects or full movies on the table, and both with end in the grading app, at least the non-logo part.

Plug-ins would be nice but we would loose realtime and more complains will go to config forum i bet
like “i try to run on my iPhone and nothing works” style.

I think the loss of realtime for some OFX plugins would be offset by the added functionality offered. And I think that some of the costs associated with top OFX plugins would keep the config questions to a minimum.

i heard that before….so does Noise reduction on level 1.
i am losing more time exporting to AE to do the thing and bring it back.
Also it could spawn the idea of an render node that does the heavy lifting and writes back images to the cache which the main app is then displaying.
