issue with bringing in a NonDropFrame sequence aaf that links to both DF and NDF source material…
hopefully someone can help with this issue.
I am currently prepping to do color for a 52min documentary for broadcast. The film is currently in offline editing, but I took the first 10min of the film back to my facility to do some testing and prepping, workflow-wise.
here is how we’ve been working so far, the director/editor gives me the Avid project sequence, (not a consolidate or transcode, just the sequence as is), with the media files and a hard drive containing all the XDcam bpav folders. at my studio, once I’ve copied all of this on my internal raid, and brought in the footage via AMA everything relinks flawlessly. I then transcode the sequence to DNxHD 220 X, creating new media files for all the footage that is being used in the edit, and then create a aaf for resolve that links back to the mxf in my media drive. This is the workflow I’ve used in the pass with little to no problems.
Now… this is where I get stuck… when I bring in the aaf in resolve and conform to a timeline half the clip come in fine and the rest come in the media pool, but not in the timeline. I did a bit of digging around in the forums and realized this might be a DF vs NDF TC issue, that my timeline was set to DF while my aaf coming in contained a NDF sequence. So I checked and sure enough in resolve the DF box was ticked in my settings. so I started again, new project, bring in the aaf and conform this time to a NDF timeline. Now half the clips that came in the previous time no longer link up, and the other half that didn’t link now link up perfectly… So… I continued digging a bit, it turns out that while all my media is 60i, some of the footage is DF and some is NDF (not just the media files but the camera original too)… As far as I can deduce, some days of filming the camera was set to record using DF TC and on other days it was recording NDF TC.
what should I do? I am not so well versed yet in the various ways of conforming, consolidating and transcoding, is there a way to change the TC type during transcode without messing with the edit and linking? I would like to stay the aaf route, as it is ideal for this project which is dissolve heavy…
thanks in advance for any help and tips
