  • Text transparency on a solid layer with a video background

Hi, I’m working on a project right now and I was wondering how do you make a transparent text on a solid layer with a video on the background in After Effects.
So with this I mean you will have a solid layer covering the whole video. This solid layer is on top of the video but on the solid layer there is some text and via these text you can see the video in the background.

I’ve found several transparency text tutorials but they are all not I want to achieve. The only thing missing is that there is no solid layer with a color over the video.

What I want to achieve is this but in After Effects: https://youtu.be/UX_aOjw2deo
But the text is fully transparent and the white solid layer is 100% filled.

Hope you guys understand what I mean I and I would love to achieve what I want to make for my project.

    Simple setup with 3 layers:
    Bottom layer is the video
    Middle layer is the solid
Top layer is your Text layer.
Use Track Matte (inverted) on the Solid layer and you got your transparent text on solid background.
For the use of Track Matte please consult the Adobe After Effects help.

Hey thanks! It worked but for one text layer only.
I have multiple text layer but the others didn’t change to transparency.

How can I make the other text layer to also have transparency?

Set up all the animations, moves, everything on your text in the final comp. Select them all and move them into a precomp(shift+cntl+C). Now change the track matte to the solid to inverted alpha.
