DaVinci @ MBP Late 2011 15″
Posted by Günther Bussmann on December 9, 2011 at 1:13 pmIs there any chance to get DaVinci on a MBP Late 2011 15″ running?

Two issues. nVidia CUDA GPU processing and the screen resolution necessary for the GUI.

December 9, 2011 at 7:03 pmResolve should run on that system, assuming it has an AMD 6xxx GPU in it. However, the Resolve GUI will not fit, unless you have the hi-res screen option. The GUI needs a minimum 1680×1050 resolution display. If you have the standard screen option, it has a resolution of 1440×900, and the Resolve GUI will not fit into that. In that case, you could use an external display with a higher resolution.
If you have all the above, and Resolve is complaining about GPU issues, make sure you have the Mac System Preferences Energy Saver Automatic Graphics Switching set OFF.

December 10, 2011 at 6:38 pmIt works just fine! I use it on my new MBP 15″ with 4Gb ram and HD screen. You will never get reel time but it’s realy usable. You can anyway download Resolve lite and try it for free.

December 10, 2011 at 11:24 pmWhat if you have all of your media running on a external Thunderbolt Pegasus R6 and a Quadro 4000 in a External Magma thunderbolt expansion chassis? That’s my Plan.. I’m waiting for magma to start shipping (later this month).

December 27, 2011 at 8:45 pmHey Bobby,
I have the same MBP but with 2.2GHZ i7, and i want to use Davinci on it but i am getting flickering problems. I tried every format and compression, nothing is working. I don’t know if it’s from the GPU but adding that thunderbolt expansion is a very good idea !! When you test it please let me know the results.
Thank you.
