Is there a way to extend tracking past the cut for a certain handle size? I keep getting slammed by motion effects that have HUGE handles- and resolve gets close to simulating them – but when they round trip back to the software, invariably, the untracked windows in the handles show up- just before the cut, halfway through a dissolve- whatever. [I’ve been able to overcome the problem by adding the same clip WAY at the end of the track (after the program) and extending to at least the length of the handles, then tracking that (as long as the clip’s still ‘linked’ to the original.) But that’s really untenable… ]

Hopefully there’s some switch somewhere that allows you to track through handles… anyone know where that is?

    Creating a Conform with handles
You can create a version of a timeline with handles. This is particularly helpful if you plan to record the
timeline to tape and need pre-roll time.
First, right mouse click on the Conform Session to which handles should be added (it can be the Master
Session too!). From the list of options select ‘Create Session with Handles.’ Select the length of handles
to be added, enter a value for the Pre and Post Handle size (frames), and click ‘OK’ to confirm. Within
this window, you may also select ‘Source Mode’ to apply handles to the clips and then sort them in
source timecode order. You can also ’Force Black Handles’ rather than use the clips images.

Creating the handles isn’t the problem – it’s tracking power windows through the handles, since they’re ‘hidden’ during the grade. I’ll try following your steps, but I don’t think it solves my problem.

That said, your note makes me think that I could probably track power windows in shots (that are suspect of having speed changes) using the master sequence (or is that called a master session?) That should give me windows that don’t jump during the handles later during render.

Love the way resolve handles speed changes – that is, it doesn’t try to recreate them, but simply simulates them in playback… that way you can still adjust them you return to the editing application.

[EDIT!] Thanks for reading the manual for me – I just re-read your email, and I that might be exactly what I need! I’ve got another show tomorrow that I know will have tons of speed-changes – can’t wait to try this trick! Also source-order is an interesting idea, too.

    Hi Greg,
The only way to sort this out is, as you mentioned, to jump to the master session and make sure you track a window through the whole shot.

I support the request of having resolve leaving the power window at the same position and size of the last tracked frame …that would solve most of the time the position of the window having few frames of handles …

Hi Nedeem: how would you do this?
I jump to Master session and the grades are not there properly.
Furthermore, sometimes the shot may be minutes long…

The problem is creating a timeline with handles goes crazy, won’t keep the grades and has proven completely useless.

Any thoughts? I’m having hard times when dealing with handles!

sometimes (still not sure why happen)even for normal primary resolve put a keyframe at the first frame of the (of the conformed session ) . so when i export handles (let’s say 10) i realize that the grade “”appear” after 10 frames …

checking the master section i see how that primary correction have a keyframe at that specific frame for that shot (first frame of the conformed session ) …

it happen randomly and i still quite cannot figure why …i believe have something to do with copy and paste …(and by mistake apply keyframes (where there is not supposed to be any..)

(so maybe when you say ” the grade is not there on the handles , maybe this is the reason ?)

You need to try make sure the grade in the master session is correct, if as another poster said, the grade seems to pop in then grab a still of the correct grade for the event and reapply it. You might then have to adjust and dynamics if you have any. You mention that some of your clips were minutes long, do you need all the material in your master session? If you do then you’ll need to track shapes through the whole clip anyway, if you don’t need all the material it might be best to rebuild the project with handles rather than all the material.
    Hope that helps!
