Resolve not seeing Avid DNX flavor quicktimes
Hello,
Running Resolve 8.1.1 on OS 10.6.7. I conformed a show today (RED shot); when I went to add my DNX36 offline reference to the Media Pool I discovered that Resolve would not see the QT.
The offline QT opens with no issues in QT player on Mac and PC, it also opens in Avid Symphony and Assimilate Scratch. However in Resolve, when I navigate to my folder in Browse, Resolve does not see the QT. On the same drive Resolve sees other quicktimes that are other codecs (ie, H264, ProresHQ), and even sees Avid MXF media from a different project.
So I did some tests – I tried making a short 5 second clip at DNX 36, (with and without audio), but no luck. Same when I rendered as DNX175, Resolve will not see the clip. However when I render as Prores, H264, or DVCPROHD, Resolve sees the clips immediately and I can add them to the media pool.
Any suggestions (other than transcoding) would be appreciated,

Resolve does not support DNxHD codec for Quicktime. It does read DNxHD MXF files.

Ouch! So I can use any quicktime as a reference, as long as it’s not in the codec (QT DNX) most likely to be supplied by Offline Editorial for an Avid project? Any idea if this will be rectified?

If they’re cutting on Avid, it’s much quicker and easier for them to provide you with a video mixdown than it is to export to Quicktime. You could talk to them and ask for that instead. As for whether Blackmagic will fix that, I don’t work for Blackmagic so no, I don’t have any idea if that is on their agenda or not.
