    Hi all,

    I’m having some teething problems with my shiny new Cubix Resolve setup. Here’s the config;

    2010 MacPro (Dual Quad 2.4Ghz)
    ATI Radeon HD 5770 – In PCIE Slot 1
    Cubix Desktop 4 Xpander (4 double width slot model) – In PCIE Slot 2

    In the Cubix;
    2x GTX 480 (flashed for Mac by Macvidcards)
    1x RedRocket
    1x Decklink HD Extreme 3D

    Resolve 8.1
    OS X 10.7.2
    RedRocket Driver: 1.4.14
    RedRocket Firmware: 1.1.15.4
    Decklink 8.6 drivers
    Latest CUDA

    I’m only getting 18fps half res premium with no nodes….

    I’ve been in touch with BMD, Cubix and Red, but they’re still scratching their heads and have given me a list of things to try (THANKS GUYS IF YOU”RE LISTENING!). Some see the RedRocket as being used by DaVinci, some don’t, I’ll post the logs and system profile below this post so you can decide yourselves.

    ….but in the meantime I was wondering if anyone has the Decklink and RedRocket cards in a Cubix together and has it working with Resolve? (As is isn’t shown in the config for mac guide I’m thinking this could be the problem)

    The reason I can’t use the remaining x4 slots is because they are being used by ProTools cards (don’t ask, it’s not my idea to have a turnkey DaVinci/ProTools MacPro! ((Resolve/ProTools installed on separate drives, Resolve on a lovely SSD of course)). OF course if this is the only fix so be it! (and if anyone is keeping up, what are the implications of adding these cards (x2) to the x4 slots..will it slow down the x16 slots?…if so how much, the apple documentation confuses me on this). Maybe I should put the 2x GTX 480’s and the ProTools cards in the Cubix and the RedRocket and Decklink in the x4 slots?? …I know this is a very unique config!

    ANY help or suggestions welcome at this point!

    Thanks!

    Toby

    I would try :

    1) Remove the Decklink card from the Cubix Desktop 4 and see if you can get half res premium playback.

    2) Remove the ProTools card in the Mac Pro and move the Decklink card to slot 3 in the Mac Pro and see if you can get half res premium playback.

    3) Or as you’ve suggested, swap the ProTools and Decklink card between the Mac Pro and Cubix and see if it makes any difference.

    Usually during troubleshooting we remove elements that are foreign in the known working configuration so at least we know it works according to the config guide.

    Your driver and firmware all looks good so it’s probably the hardware side of things.

    I have a similar set up with 470s (actually just ordered some 480s for a new system/room) and Red Rocket in Desktop 4 and I’m having no problems what so ever. I’m not hip to the ins and outs of who communication is happening on the PCIe bus but it would seem to me sharing that one x16 slot with the graphics cards, rocket and the deckling is a lot to ask especially since the deckling is always in “go mode” outputting from resolve.

    I would try to pull the decklink and see what kind of performance you get.

    Hi.

    This is the basic way to track things down.

    Try to remove all and one by one ad them to see what config will work.

    I agree with Robbie that putting a lot of stuff on one lane with high demands can cause you problems.

    Hmmm, got one possible thing to add:

    In your setup, I didn’t see a RAID controller card mentioned anywhere. What kind of disk speed is the BM speed test giving you on whatever scratch you are using? Is it just a software stripe of internal disks?

    Just might be worth looking into, depending on what sort of material you plan on grading!
