  • Tricky screen replacement – How to mask this?

Posted by Sean Carney on October 27, 2015 at 6:47 pm

I am trying to do a screen replacement for the monitor on the left. I have tried rotobrushing but it looks weird still because of the wide aperture of the shot and it also randomly cuts into the menu bar. I also tried rotoscoping with a mask but the blurring still looks weird and the fabric on the shoulder makes it tough to track. Any suggestions on how I could better mask this out?

Have you tried the refine soft matte effect?

I haven’t tried that yet. I’ll give it a shot when I get a chance. Thanks for the suggestion!

If what you have to apply is also somewhat bright, I’d just cut the dude out with a featherd mask (he almost stay put during the whole pan). I’d be done minutes before the rotobrush processed the clip. And you can shrink the mask and control the feather way faster than robobrushing.
