  DaVinci 8 Lite – corrupt video issue

  Hi all,

  i have downloaded DaVinci Lite to learn the package, I am using

  27inch Imac
  OSX 10.6.8
  Processor 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7
  8GB 1067 MHz DDR3
  Graphics Card = ATI Radeon HD 4850 (VRAM = 512MB)

  My issue is that when i bring video into the media pool the entire sequence is corrupt.

  Hi James,

  This GPU – “ATI Radeon HD 4850” is currently not supported. You should have got a warning at startup. There are several known OpenCL issues with the ATI 4xxx GPUs.

  Please refer to our Mac configuration guide for details on the supported platforms and GPUs.

  Rohit, I have the same problem on the same machine. I understand the machine and card is not officially supported but others have Resolve running on their unsupported iMac systems. See my earlier thread about the “maxed iMac 2009.”

  I called Apple and they said that I can have diagnostics run on the card as there may be a detectable problem and then they’ll replace the card. I have long ago applied the only AMD firmware update that Apple issued (in December 2009 I think). Could you kindly be more specific about the known issues as it relates to OpenCL and DaVinci Resolve? Thank you for your response.

  Try Resolve Lite 8.1. It’s working for me now as I posted elsewhere. Perhaps upgrading to Lion 10.7.2 is the key or perhaps Blackmagic did some work behind the scenes for the benefit of those with IMacs with the ATI Radeon 4850 GPU. I still get a warning message but it works.

  Jason, I just followed the very helpful first set of instructions in Ola’s post here:
  https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/277/11760#11785

  On starting DaVinci Resolve, you get a warning that the ATI Radeon HD 4850 card is not supported, but just continue and hopefully it works. I have verified this on Lion 10.7.2 with Resolve 8.1.1 and Lion 10.7.3 with Resolve 8.2. Sure hope it continues to work with Resolve 9.0!

  Let me know if you have success on the latest release of the Resolve software and Mac OS X.

  it’s working!

  Everything except importing an xml from FCP X. It crashes. But I’ll deal with that later.
