Im on a 3,1 mac pro – I have the gtx 285 installed – and Im wondering if I put in my old Radeon HD 2600 for the GUI part?

I asked this earlier, but the thread was not clearly answered.

I also have a 8800 gt ? around somewhere. Could that be used for the GUI ?

    Second:

Is anyone successfully using the HD extreme 2 for monitoring? I have one of these as well….

Im kinda trying to put something together “on the cheap” here, as Im moving away from Apple Color.
( Or rather Apple is moving away from it 😉

While you can use JUST the 285, performance will be sub-optimal and beside a nice warning message that you need another GPU you wont achieve real time playback with much correction. Try to find a GT120 as they are sometimes on ebay or the like and are cheap. We have not tested the old video cards so just give it a try and see. Worst case it does not work and you need to find a newer Decklink.

I’ve heard the 8800 works for the GUI, but I don’t think a GTX285 and 8800 can live in the same machine considering they’ll require 3 power cables to run.

The GUI card really helps, especially on an older system.
The GT 120 comes for very little money, is totally silent and discreet.
Just get one, its a no brainer.
But…if money is not a point, get a Quadro 4000, a Y cable and run the best possible internal solution.
Kickass GUI , Premiere, CAD, AVID..and good performance for Resolve.
