  • Cusomizing path name when rendering in source mode

Posted by Roman Hankewycz on July 6, 2011 at 6:04 pm

When rendering in source mode, I’d like each clip to be rendered to a separate folder so renders with identical names don’t overwrite each other. No problem. But I want the names of those folders to only contain the event number, no version number, that’s what I can’t get to work.
When I select “Render Each Clip to a Separate Directory,” the dialog box comes up asking for the path name. If I leave it as is, I get a bunch of folders named event_[version number]_[event number]. I’ve tried modifying the path name to be just “event_0001” or just “0001” but then I get unpredictable results. Some folders stick to the old naming method and some get “Event_####,” and in the case of using just numbers in the path name it still gives me the same results.
I can’t figure it out, any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

Hi Roman, we will look into this further but it sounds like something for a future release.

    Thank you Peter.
It would be great if you could define a pattern for the path name similar to the way you define a pattern for retrieving reel names from directory structure in the config window.
I imagine having a set of commands that you can use to customize the folder names (event number, time stamp, version number, etc.).
That would be extremely helpful on projects with frequent grading tweaks that have to be “recompiled” in an NLE, as you would be able to manage your grades by which folders they are written to.
    Thanks again.

yep i vote too to have the possibility of a clean “event1” / “event 2” etc…. folder naming structure …

so if you arrange the rendered folders by name the version number used (that is usually written by default on the name of the folder does not affect that

    I second that request..
And it would be great to save naming sequences into templates.
    Like “projectname”grading/Event####/”sourcefilename”.”sourcefilenumber”.dpx
Normally we have to render stuff a couple of times and it would make it easier to establish a pipeline and use scripts externally to handle and distribute the Resolve output.

    Hi ,

Did you try the “Src Directory Preserve Level” just opposite to “prefix” option ? It will render the same as the source clip folder depending upon how many levels you select . If your source folder has too many clips , then this might not be of any help I suppose .

    Thanks

Since upgrading to Resolve 8 I’ve found that the “FCP 7 Roundtrip” and “Render Clip with Unique File name” takes care of my need because it renders media using the source file name followed by the event#. However it would still be nice to customize output names by defining a template for other uses like Sascha mentioned.
