I’m experiencing a problem conforming an updated EDL in DaVinci with several ProRes4444 clips included in a mostly RED project. I have little trouble linking and conforming the R3D’s, and in my original sequence everything is sweet, except for a few offline clips. Those offline clips are what is causing my issue now though because after exporting an updated EDL from FCP, when bringing it into Resolve it won’t allow me to grade those new onlined clips (encoded as ProRes4444). What is strange is I can see the clips (in my Color window and preview output monitor, except not my Conform window), but they have a red cross over them, and I cannot apply any grading. I am able to manually add those same clips via DaVinci editing, however, and grade. It just seems when importing via EDL (of which only one setting works), they are inaccessible.

Anybody know what is causing this?

If they have a red X across them but you still see an image, it’s possible that they are actually offline but the setting is enabled for Resolve to “Show offline clips through conform gaps.” If your offline reference doesn’t have timecode burn-ins or noticeably lower resolution, it might look like the footage is actually online, when really it’s just the offline “showing through.”

Then it makes sense that dropping the shot in manually makes it online… so the issue seems to be with the EDL not linking up to those specific clips in the conform…

I don’t think they are there: Red cross means no clip – possibly you have show offline through gaps selected so you can ‘see’ the clips in the offline (having offlines with embedded TC is useful for this and many other reasons in a conform). If you can’t find a way around the conform settings to get them in with an EDL then manually adding the only way to go (this month)
