  • Removing clips based on EDL?

On the current project I’m working on the clients named their reels with far too many characters which get truncated in the EDL. The result is that when I add clips to the Media Pool based on EDL the system adds more clips than is necessary and then in the Conform tab I have to resolve a bunch of conflicts. I don’t have a problem with any of this, however I was wondering if there’s a way for me to eliminate the erroneously added clips from the Media Pool after I’ve gone through my session and resolved all conflicts. I’d like to remove any unnecessary clips from the Media Pool so Resolve doesn’t have to keep track of them throughout the project.
    Thanks,
    Roman

Have you tried editing your EDL first? You should test out Textwrangler. It’s probably the best tool around for tweaking edl’s, ale’s, and flx files.

    Thanks for the reply Illya.
I’m checking out Textwrangler now, however what I was asking about is whether there’s a way to select clips in the Media Pool that are not used by a session so that they could be removed.
So far I haven’t found a way of doing this and I’m pretty sure the function doesn’t exist but it would be a useful option and one I assume would be easy to implement. Maybe a feature request?
    Thanks all,
    Roman

Can you media-manage your clips from the NLE to a separate folder? That way when you import that folder you’re getting just the clips you need?

I think what Illya was saying is to use Textwrangler to fix your EDL, then when you import based on EDL DaVinci won’t import the wrong stuff.

PS – my personal feature request would be to have Resolve copy files within its media pool. Eg: I add R3Ds to media pool based on EDL, then I have resolve copy those to local raid.

I know some 3rd party tools do this, but it would be an elegant solution in some ways.
