  • Will more RAM add some gain in performance?

I’m on a basic specced Mac Pro 2009, Two Quad 2.26GHz 6GB RAM, GT120 and GTX285. I’m wondering if more RAM would help? I’m sure it won’t do “magic”, but would I benefit from it? I see in the Activity Monitor I have in the dock that RAM fills up very quickly, even though I’m not seeing any significant performance issues, except with RED RAW.

It depends if the software you are using can run 64 bit. If yes it can adress more RAM.

No, I went from 6 to 24 last week and it feels the same.

But, I can keep other stuff like Storm or Nuke open at the same time with Ram previews loaded and Resolve is still happy.

    A slice of color…

Thanks, appreciate the feedback. I think I should spend those $$$ in some SAS storage then. Bigger, faster, better!

I love Storm by the way. So much potential there. I hope the Foundry releases a full NLE in the future.
