We’re primarily a telecine/color/DI/film scanning shop. We do a lot of commercial dailies, finals, feature DI etc. with DaVinci 2K and now Resolve. Just got a new film scanner and we’re testing some DPX-to-Avid MXF workflows (for commercial & feature dailies delivery) and we’re having trouble opening the 1080p DNxHD 36 MXF media rendered from Resolve with an Avid. We are not an offline house and admittedly are Avid noobs. Can anyone help? I have a feeling it’s a simple solution. Here’s the workflow:

    -Resolve version: 7.1
    -Avid Media Composer version: 5.0.3
-Scan to film 2K DPX with timecode and edgecode/keycode embedded in DPX metadata
-Bring DPX sequence into 1080p Resolve project, grade, set burn-in windows, render to 1080p DNxHD 36 MXF media

The resulting MXF file is called “01468800.mxf” and we cannot open it with Avid. Do we need an ALE? What would we use to create an ALE for Avid? Anyone else have this issue? Avid experts please help!

    Thanks,

    Paul

You need to add the clips to the ‘AvidMediaFiles’ folder on your media drive then launch Avid. It will scan and index the new media on startup. Then use the ‘Media Tool’ in Avid to find the new clips and drag them into a bin.

Also remember to enable the reel number support. Avid seems to not like MXF clips with empty reel numbers.
