  lighting 2D animation in After Effects

  Hello there,

  I’ve been watching a lot of 2D hand drawn/flash stuff recently, that has some impressive looking lighting on it. With a lot of it, I can imagine it’s Photoshop, and painting techniques.
  But a lot of it, looks like there is lighting generated.

  Does anybody know of any tutorials/guides that could help me simulate nice lighting effects for 2D animation?

  Most of it was already painted that way but there are some things you can do to improve it.

  Adding bright layers in screen mode with a low opacity where a light would be will contribute to the realism. (Video 1 the volumetric light)

  Any post bloom effect will make bright areas bleed into dark ones, after some more color correction it may give you the impression that you have painted it that way.

  Light wrap effects on characters masking one side can add a rim light look in post. (video 3).
