  Unable to paste an image inside a shape

  I have a shape that’s about 8”x10” and the shape itself has about 1/4” wide lines forming the border of the shape. When I paste an image into the shape using the Draw Inside option, only the actual 1/4” wide line gets the pasted image but the entire inside of the shape stays white (transparent). Why can’t I paste the image into the white areas and NOT into the 1/4” wide lines?

  I could probably help if you show an image of what you’re talking about.
  I don’t get it as is.
