  • Maintaining Text Formatting when Copying and Pasting into new project

    I’m working in Illustrator CS6, Windows 8.1.

So I have an AI file, which was exported from Corel Draw, and it opens up pretty much perfectly, with no severe problems.

I try to copy text from this AI file, and past in place into a new AI project, but the formatting of the text doesn’t follow. I have to go in and reformat the text. Since I am working on a map, there’s a significant amount of text so I’d prefer not to have to reformat it all.

I suspect that it may have something to do specifically with the exported Corel Draw file, since I can create a new AI project, type out text in the new project, copy it, and past it into the old project, and the text formatting is maintained.

Is there a way that I can be sure to maintain the formatting in the text when copying and pasting?

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give!

Never having used CorelDraw, I don’t know what the problem is, but if you can outline the type (Type>create outlines) without the look changing, then you can copy and paste it as artwork rather than type.
