  Illustrator CMYK vs Photoshop CMYK

  Hi Guys, So I am converting brand colours into CMYK and they are coming out very muddy and dull. The colours that we have chosen our Panone’s 300c and 3005c. In photoshop and in RGB Pantone, the colours look good. How come they are so muddy in illustrator? Thanks

  The CMYK gamut (range of colors) is much smaller than Pantone and RGB. All you do is to find the closest match, that will likely be muddier if your original color is very saturated. You can look at the direct conversion CMYK values and perhaps pull out the conflicting color some.

  The direct conversion of these colors to CMYK are

  300C = 100C, 56.9M, 3,96Y, 0,49K

  3005C = 100C, 40.19M, 0Y, 0,06K

  So, instead you can round them to

  300C = 100C, 57M, 0Y, 0K

  3005C = 100C, 40M, 0Y, 0K

  and that’s as bright as you can make them in CMYK.
