  Delay after clicking on object

  When I click on any object, the object won’t select for a few seconds. The cursor briefly goes “rainbow beach ball” then the object is selected. During this delay *I must not move the cursor*.

  If I click on an object and immediately move the cursor, then after the few-seconds delay the object follows the cursor and I have unintentionally moved the object.

  Only immediately after clicking on an object does this delay occur. All other aspects of AI are normal and in all other apps (including Photoshop CS5 and Acrobat Pro, the only other Adobe apps I use) behavior is normal.

  Any ideas why this delay is happening? Something I can do to eliminate it?
