  Array of pentagons

  Hello,

  I’ve been trying to create the pattern shown below, and am having difficulty getting the individual pentagons snap together neatly. (The individual pentagons were made with the polygon tool and copying the object, and then rotating some of them by 36 or 180 degrees). Only the middle and bottom pentagon “snaps” at the base. I cannot seem to figure out how to get the other sides of the pentagon to “snap” in a similar manner, regardless of which “snap to” option I turn on. “Smart guides” does not seem to help here.

  I could of course simply arrange the objects unaided, but they never seem to align perfectly, whereby after applying stroke, or using the entire object as a group for other repeated patterns, some areas end up being thicker and looking slightly misaligned.

  

  Any help would be greatly appreciated

  Try this radial pattern tutorial, particularly using the rotate tool.
