  Dissecting Vetors

  Hi guys, I’m struggling with the simplest technique to separate a map image of the USA into interlocking states (I’m assuming using the pathfinder which sometimes baffles me as I don’t use Illustrator a great deal is the best way).

  The final intention is to import the map into After Effects so each state can be animated individually but form one whole USA eventually. GoMedia has achieved the effect I would like in one of its Vector packs but I want to create a simpler graphic style on the shape of the country so it means I need to re-create each element myself?
