  • Justified text randomly doesn’t justify?

Posted by James Culbertson on September 21, 2009 at 2:59 am

    Finally switching from Freehand…

Opened a Freehand 10 document in Illustrator CS3. It comes across fine, except that all of the text is center justified in some way or other (and shows it in the Illustrator paragraph panel), yet in random places it is not center justified. Nothing I do in Illustrator fixes this (including playing around with the justification dialog in the paragraph pull down menu). I have read the manual but can find no way of fixing this. Is there some hidden setting I should know about.

    Thanks,

    James

In the paragraph menu flyout menu, choose justification. Most likely the freehand values imported into here are different. Illustrator justification does not work perfectly when you use values different than the standard:

    Word: 80%, 100%, 133%
    Letter: 0%, 0%, 0%
    Glyph: 100%, 100%, 100%

Negative values especially drive Illustrator justifcation out of whack.

    That fixed it.

    Thanks!
