  Relief Map/ Surface Map

  I have both and illustrator and Photoshop file of a National Park Map (please don’t be confused with the two
  different uses of the word ‘map’ in this post), it came with a B/W relief map.
  I’ve used relief maps in 3D programs before to create the illusion depth on flat 2D surfaces before, but I no
  longer have access to the 3D Program. Is there any way to apply this relief map to the Illustator or photoshop
  image of the park ‘map’ to create depth?

  In Photoshop, you need Filter > Distort > Displace (only available when you’re in RGB mode).
