I use Photoshop only a couple times a month – quite a novice, but last time it worked fine. Today i open it and my cursor is the circle with a line through it…can’t do anything. Any ideas?

thanks for helping out a bonehead!

What is on the layer you are trying to edit?
This usually happens if you are trying to edit a type layer or smart object before rasterizing the layer.
if it is type or a smart object, right mouse click (ctrl+click for mac) on the layer name in the layer pallette and chose rasterize Type/Layer.
    Hope this helps 😀

Apps can get wonky if you’re not repairing permissions on a regular basis. You can also leave your computer on all night to automatically run scripts that will repair permissions. To run them yourself, use Disk Utility: https://kb.iu.edu/data/aoxn.html
