  • Tiff files won’t open in layers

Seems I’ve clicked something I shouldn’t have at home on Photoshop 7.0.1. I know it’s old, but the quandry could likely apply to any version. The program will not open tiff files in layers, but just as one background image. This is all tiff files, on the hardrive or archived on CD. They open at work as layers, but not at home.

I’m expecting that this may be simple file association or a matter of hitting shift or alt, etc as I open the file to remedy. Any advice?

In Photoshop 6 you have to mark a preference. “Advanced TIFF options”, I think it is called.

In PS7 you shouldn’t had to do nothing. Maybe your copy of PS7 is corrupted.

You can try to delete the preferences. Close your Photoshop, then open it and press Alt + Ctrl + Shift keys. PS will ask you if you want to reset it. Click OK.

If you are in a Mac, press Opt + Cmd + Shift.
