  • Resizing (?) images for import to video editor

I am uncertain if I should post here or at the Apple Final Cut Pro forum, so I will try both. I am new to Photoshop. Using Elements 2.0 I need to resize some photo’s that were taken as potrait views and make them like a landscape view for proper viewing in my video editing applications viewer/canvas window, it’s size is 720 x 480. When I import a portrait view it is too narrow and I end up with black vertical bands on each side of the picture on the video timeline. Help?

How big are the original photos? if they are larger then 720 pixels wide then you can crop them at the right ratio and then resize to 720 x 480. They should import correctly then.

SInce you are planning on outputting to 4:3 NTSC video (DV or DVD) you need to CROP them to 720×534 and then do an IMAGE SIZE to 720×480 (to get the correct pixel aspect ratio for digital video).
