Photoshop type tool measurement is different than the ruler measurement?
My Photoshop type tool measurement is different than the ruler measurements and I can’t figure out how why. Using the ruler I set my guides at 12.5 millimeters then I added type set at 12.5 millimeters. But the type was way too small so I measured with the ruler tool and the type is only 9.2 millimeters tall.
I’ve tried several different fonts, and checked all the type tool settings. Does anyone know what could cause this? It’s driving me crazy!

Not all glyphs take up full point height, it’s a part of font design to deal with descenders, ascenders, and other characters.
You’ll just have to scale it manually with the transform command.

I appreciate your answer but this is happening with every font and it wasn’t always like this. Has anyone else had this problem?

Er, nope. I’m going to have to disagree, it has to do with cell height/point size vs glyph height and I checked back on Photoshop CS 5.5. If it use to work differently then it must have done so at a point beyond my recent memory.
72pt Aral Black ‘X’ is ~51.5 points high. If I type it’s equivalent of ~18mm into the type size box to create a second X then Photoshop insta-converts to ~51.5 points, ok great. Type the letter and it’s smaller than the first. Photoshop is properly converting mm to points but, again, a letter rarely takes full height.

I checked all type related options and menus, no options related.
