Anyone who might be interested in, or is working with, digital painting, check out Krita v2.7. The new version 2.8 will be out later this month and the toolset is pretty amazing. As a tool for 2d painting it trounces Photoshop, and makes for a great companion application.

Templates are available for video work, and it works in full 8/16/32bpc.

The devs are now confident enough about Krita to try to find users to support it on Steam.

An introductory pdf describing version 2.6 is available here:

Before you use it, make certain to turn on OpenGL acceleration in the Settings->Configure Krita->Display menu
Krita’s Opengl works extremely smooth – many times better than Photoshop in this regard for me on an amd 7970.

I have been doing my 2d paint work for a while now in Krita, and it’s quite amazing as a paint tool. Even more unsettling is that it is open source, and freely available to anyone!

A mac version is in the works, but not yet available. The Windows version works very well for me.
Definitely worth checking out if you are even remotely interested and/or working as a 2d digital artist.
