  Old interlaced CRT TV preview

  I have an odd question. I still create standard definition DVDs for my clients every now and then but when I do, I still like to keep in mind the good old CRT TV interlaced formats during the design phase. I do this perhaps out of habit because I lived thorough many of those CRT years. And also because I believe that someone out there could still have an old CRT TV perhaps in an office or classroom (where my DVDs are likely to be viewed).

  Having said that, when I design DVD menus, as many of you know, there are a few things that will not look good on an interlaced CRT. For example white smallish text will buzz like crazy.

  Unfortunately my last old CRT TV died and I now have to drive over to a friends house and borrow his old TV to check every time I make a change. I’m planning on getting a replacement but until then, is there perhaps a Photoshop plugin or app that can simulate an interlaced TV and what the menus would look like so I can preview directly on my Mac? This would be quite useful even after I get the replacement TV since I won’t have to necessarily burn a DVD for every test/change.

  Since retro games are the theme here, they really focus on the tech of CRT and how it makes the images look. Dunno if it will help or not, but it can’t hurt.
