Printing video clips from a 1440 x 1080i timeline.

The stills taken from a 1440 x 10180 timeline looks ok in Photoshop but, prints looking thinly distorted.

How do you fix ?

I could be wrong, but I believe it’s because they are coming in at 72 dpi which always looks terrible when printed. Do a resize (command option I) and turn off the resample so it just lets you change 72 dpi to something like 150 dpi or higher. Make the adjustment, save the image, and try printing again. It will print smaller, but with better detail.

Resize to 1920×1080. 1440x 1080 is a compressed (anamorphic) video format.

Hi Bill,
I did that as I know the pixels from Premiere Pro CS5.5.2 are anamorphic and rectangular and CS5.5.2 fixes the proportions on the fly, Photoshop does the same thing but, even if you “save as’ it prints incorrectly ?, Photoshop makes it look right but does not print that way ?

Hi Jonathan,
The detail is not the issue, I have seen the change from 72p to 200p on resample, it looks right in Photoshop but, prints squeezed from the Epson R800, if I use the Epson Print Cd that allows me to fix the distorted image, it looks like the distorted image from a 35mm film clip before using the anamorphic lens on projection ?

I just thought it would be dead easy using Photoshop ?

Hi Bill,

I have found in Photoshop Image>Transform>Perspective, it is not perfect but you can drag the image out to approx the correct perspective and it prints OK.

Photoshop does not correct the pixel aspect ratio that is for viewing only.
Images always have square pixels.
If you want to print the 1440×1080 screendump you will have to change the resolution to 1920×1080. Like said before.
Make a new file which is 1920×1080 and square pixels.
Drop the 1440×1080 in and scale it to fit in all directions.
Save and print.

Thanks, Ann, that is simpler.

I do not need to that much now because of the Canon 5D mark II square pixels
