  Adjusting opacities by tone?

  Hi, I’m curious if there is a rather straight-forward way to adjust opacities for a specific tone (lights, mediums, or darks) while leaving the others unaffected. For instance, I’m compositing smoke and would like to reduce opacity on the whites to blend better with the background.

  I’ve tried similar things in Color Range, but find it really troublesome in what it selects, but maybe I’m missing something.

  Try double-clicking your layer and at the bottom of the dialog box that pops up, you’ll see “Blend If” settings for “this layer”, “underlying layer” and for colors. Hope this helps!
