Alpha Channel to Transparency
Am at a loss and I know there must be a simple answer but…
Working on a 32bit PSD with a complicated alpha channel
When I apply my changes in Photoshop using the clone stamp or whatever, the alpha channel isn’t affected, only the RGB channels, so it looks great in Photoshop but when saved and re-imported into After Effects or the like, the old alpha channel in place renders all the new work I did transparent.
Can I take the original image before I start editing, and apply the alpha channel onto a copy of the background as a layer so I can See the transparent checker pattern and not have to worry about an independent alpha channel? This way edits to the image will automatically include the transparent data?

Keeping in mind this is a 32bit image, so many tools in Photoshop CS5 64 bit will not work.
