  How to cross dissolve when someone is behind an object?

  In this video (at about 17m17s) he uses a cross dissolve to make the two girls disappear.

  I’m new and I don’t think he roto-scoped because it’s in premiere and not after effects so how did he make the girl on the right disappear behind the fully opaque scooter?

  The scooter is in the same exact spot in both shots, so when the dissolve occurs the only pixels that change are the ones of the girl to the grass – no need for roto work.
