  • Open InDesign file in Photoshop, with layers?

Posted by Michael Hancock on March 19, 2008 at 3:18 pm

Quick question…search didn’t turn up the answer.

If someone sends us an InDesign project file, can we open it in Photoshop with all layers preserved for additional editing, or will it flatten the layers (or not open at all?).

If this can’t be done, can InDesign be saved in a file format that will open in Photoshop (.eps?) with layers intact, or does it flatten the layers?

    Thanks in advance.

    Michael.

    Thanks Richard.

I won’t be the one using the programs, but the fellow who will be was on a plane over the ocean, so we couldn’t ask him. I’ll tell the client to send the InDesign file–the Photoshop guy can export a layer at a time if he needs to.

    Thanks again.

    Michael.

I was just wondering about this myself today. Sure would be a great feature to have in future upgrades, adding a great deal to the interactivity capabilities of the Adobe suite.
