Smooth Skin Tones

Float a copy of your layer
Gaussian Blur the layer copy it a strong amount
Set the layer blending mode to soft light
Create a layer mask and paint out areas you do not want smooth

the soft light will give you that glowing sheen and rich color, you can adjust the layers opacity if 100% is to strong.

I know this should be simple stuff! however how do I do the layer mask part to paint out the parts I don’t want effected? I have created a layer mask but can’t paint on it!

In the layers palette click on the icon with the dotted circle at the bottom of the layer palette. This adds a layer mask to your selected layer. Then paint with black to remove unwanted times or white to bring it back. Use a soft brush and alternate brush hardness as needed.

I was looking for this info. Is this how they do it on all the magazine covers? I am looking for a tutorial that has that same effect.

I’m not sure if this is how they do it on magazine covers but it does work well.
