  cutting out image from background…

  Hi.. all I want to do is cut out a picture of a butterfly (in the woods) and put it into a picture of a living room.

  I knew how to do this really easily with Photoshop 6.. just used the Pen Tool, cut around the butterfly, and make selection and then copy and paste.

  But now I have Photoshop CS and as I move the pen tool around the image its getting filled by a solid black color. So i can’t actually select the butterfly picture. What the heck is going on please??

  When using the Pen tool, you have the option to create a Path or Vector art. Once the Pen tool is selected, in the tool bar at the top, just underneath the Edit and Image drop down menus, you can select the Paths option (shaded square with anchors on each corner).
