  Masking question…

  Let’s say I have two shapes. A circle and a line.

  I want the line to be unseen until it rotates in front of the circle.

  Every time I create a shape to mask the line, it matches the rotation of the line.

  I’d like the mask to stand completely still, while the line rotates independently.

  This takes about 1 second to do in photoshop…

  How do I do this in AE?

  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  Not quite sure I understand what you’re trying to do, but a mask only moves if you animate it.

  Don’t use a mask for this; use a track matte [link].

  Try rotobrush. It works wonders on pretty much anything.
