Control speed/timing full animation with subcomps using slider
Hi,
I’m new to the forum , hope someone can help me.I’m animating a train driving through different landscapes. Train is just still in the middle of the comp. All the background are loops at same speed.
I need to control the full animation (main comp with subcomps in it) using a slider or something else to start, stop, pauze the animation. I fixed it using a null object connected to a slider, but then I don’t know how to use the keyframes. The speed is not matching the default speed of the animation so hard to time everything.
Ideas are welcome!

Hey Hans, could you please confirm the following: backgrounds are different ‘videos/animated loops’. When you control the movement of these landscapes, you find it complicated to match the tempo of background loops with train. It looks unnatural movement, with a train sliding over instead of fluidly moving in X?

Hi Tomas,
I’ve created small background loops with different landscapes etc. The backgrounds are layered in depth so that looks natural. The train has no keyframes and is just still in the middle of the comp. In the main comp i need some script to speed/start the whole animation with all the subcomps in it..
Maybe hard to explain this way, but maybe you have some tips? -
Hans, ahaa! Now it makes more sense, thanks. Please let me know if below are correct:
1. Backgrounds are a perfect seamless loop of horizontal movement.
2. You want to control the speed of loops, to begin the movement of it and stop once the ‘train’ should stop.
3. Are you familiar with Time remapping?Cheers.

Hi, yes the three point are correct. Loops are perfect seamless and placed different loops in 1 comp in time. The main comp should be controlled by time remapping. For example by a slider but corresponding with the default speed. Now my controller speeds the comp a different speed..

Assuming that framerates of your loop comps are all the same and matches main comp:
1. Make background loops comp length to be a single loop long. Lets say, 5s.
2. In the main comp, apply Time Remapping.
3. Add slider control into expression field.
4. Animate the slider. Set keyframes of the same value at different time marks to create a pause.Find out more:
