  • Technique for zooming in and stroke width remaining constant

Hi, I wonder if you could give advice with a technique, have a map of the British Isles, and I want to zoom into a certain area. The map is a stroke and as I zoom in, I want the stroke to remain constant rather than getting thicker.

    My question is:

    1. Should I use a camera and zoom,
    2. Should I scale the shape layer
    3. How best to maintain the stroke width.

    Here’s my GIF so far.

You can also see my technique, I have a shape layer of the whole of the British Isles, then it ends, and a new shape layer starts of Ireland, then it ends as North Ireland comes into view.

I understand that this question might be too ambiguous, but if you have any articles or tutorials that deal with this, let me know!

    Thanks
    Steve

Place the islands’ path inside another group layer (lets name it “Map”) while the stroke remains outside and below the subgroup “Map”.
Instead of animating the camera or the layer properties (which would also scale the stroke thickness proportionately), animate the transform values of the “Map” subgroup. That way the path gets bigger inside the subgroup, but the stroke remains the same.

    Thanks Alex, that makes sense!
