    Hi all,
I’m having a play about with 3d stroke that I’ve just bought(trapcode=modern deities-discuss)and basically I’m trying to copy the lines from the belief ad on the website. Here’s the snafu, try as i might i can’t get the lines to be as
    a)Pretty
b)Organic(something to do with the start/end settings?)
    c)flying towards camera
Mine just end up looking like limp vermcelli massively not getting their groove on

So it’s agreed I’m a numpty…If you nice ladies and gentlemen would give this give me a run through on how they do it or even as magical as to show me via an .aep then some Scottish love would be winging your way

    you guys rawk in advance.

Is it the Zoom ad? I don’t see 3D stroke in that. There are the sreaks, but I don’t think that has to be 3D stroke. Furthermore, being on a Trapcode site they only mentioned Particular being in it.

If it’s not the Zoom ad, do you have a link?

    Alright Chris
Yes it’s the Zoom ad. Please don’t tell me that’s a 3d app that made the pretty strokes. That would suck cos i don’t have any 3d apps, or come to think of it the knowledge of streak creation therein. Is there a way to replicate them without said software?

If someone has ideas then i would be 3D st(r)oked…

You mean those yellow-gold strokes that appear in twos or threes every now and then? They look like 3D stroke to me. I say that because the strokes don’t interact in 3D space with anything else.

If it is 3D stroke, you just draw a curvy stroke with the pen tool, rotate it in 3D stroke, then tweak the position of the stroke’s mask points until it looks right. The tweaking is weird, since it doesn’t go where you expect, so you might want to tweak the mask points in a layer window and see the result in another comp window. Or not. 🙂

To make them zip by, just animate the start and end point.
Use the taper setting for sharp ends.
There should be other settings for opacity if I recall.

    That should be it …

So it may well be 3d stroke.(Said in best James Bond villian voice)
I sussed the pen mask business, but I just cant seem to get perspective on the stroke itself. It looks real flat. I’m using the comp camera going reasonably wide. I’ve tried varying the start end thickness to fake the distance but being honest it looks crap.Anyone got a project using this admittedly lovely(in the right hands)plugin.Sorry if i’m being a pain ,but i can usually figure it out better(read:I’m dense) with pre made project in hand.I’m also quite new to AE so please be gentle

    “Yesh, my dear Moneypenny …”

Did you rotate the stroke around the Y axis in the 3DStroke controls?
Did you move the stroke closer to camera (position Z)?

I’m not saying it’s NOT 3D stroke, I think you don’t need it to do the effect. To me it looks like the ol’ fashioned light blur (see tutorial below) effect just put in 3D space.

Well nevermind for now, I can’t get the tutorials page to come up 🙁

As a side note, all the curtainish flowy pink things were apparently C4D. There is a ‘how it’s made’ quicktime on belief’s site that is very cool.

Righto you guys are the mutts nuts, thanks v. much for getting back to me.
Steve, no i hadn’t tried the rotation on Y- or z depth(i assume you mean as part of the 3d stroke effect controls as appossed to the actual comp camera itself, cos I did try some simian skills with the camera but that got me into no end of bother- will monkey around with it in the morning.
Chris, I shall search for this fabled lightblur of ye olde 3d space and crown ye King for your endeavours(I should point out that I have no legal right or precendence to crown anyone King, but hey this is the tinterweb-there are no rules-Arise King Smith!))
I shall carry on forthwith with getting media-eval on these streaks behinds and will post in the morning(GMT) if I suck seed or still struggle.

BTW to the people who run this Forum(and of course the other people who post), You Rawk Hard. I have learned more in the short while i ve been lurking around these waters than any book or lecturer has even come close to teaching me.So, Cheers!

[ezroller] “Righto you guys are the mutts nuts, thanks”

Er, um, you are welcome. (He said rather sheepishly, pondering the whole idea of seeing his team reduced to that of being a mutt’s nuts.)

    ;o)

[ezroller] “BTW to the people who run this Forum (and of course the other people who post), You Rawk Hard.”

    I better, I’ve been drumming since I was 14. ;o)

But seriously, we are very proud of our team. We believe that they are the very best out there and when you say that…

[ezroller] ” have learned more in the short while i ve been lurking around these waters than any book or lecturer has even come close to teaching me.”

…we have to thank you for the kind words and, like you, we believe that they are a phenomenal resource and a great bunch of people.

So Cow leaders and those who contribute to this community, please take a bow…
