  • Why can´t we access mask vertices in expressions?

Posted by Fredrik Åkerlund on December 1, 2015 at 8:28 am

I´ve been reading this question a lot: “Can I manipulate vertices with expressions?” and the answer is always “No”. But being a very curious person I would really like to know why that is? I have a lot of ideas that is just out of reach because of this and of course it´s bugging me a lot. You can apparently do it with scripts so there´s no firewall to vertices. That means that there is a vertex array just waiting to be fiddled around with but just out of reach. There´s got to be a good reason for Adobe to leave this feature out of expressions and I really would like to know what that reason is.

As I’ve understood it, a script can create a mask from vertex points but cannot access them once the mask has been created. If this is indeed the case, lack of expression access to vertex points would be a logical consequence of the same.

Not that that answers the question why the vertices cannot be accessed.

Ah ok, that actually explains a lot. Thank you for clearing that up for me. Now, I do think it would be interesting to know why. I´m pretty sure it´s not a design choice so what is going on under the hood I wonder..? 🙂
