I’m trying to make an effect where one part of my background is white lights – i’ve got the white circles I drew in Illustrator imported into AE 6.5. Now I want to make them shimmery – with a light source that moves up and down. I’m currently using Knoll Factory’s Light and varying the light source, but it is not giving me that “pop” I want. Can anyone suggest anything to make it look more like stadium lights? Thanks-

Maybe duplicate the layer. Set the duplicate to ADD transfer mode. Add a blur to it. Blur it a bit. Add a CC Light sweep filter and animate it to move up and down so that it creates the shimmer effect in the alpha. Then add a curves and tweak the highlits and shadows to slightly different hues. Maybe a light yellowish orange on the high end and a mauve thing on the low end.

    Just thinking out loud.

Chris is great, do what he says. But if what he says isn’t exactly what you’re looking for could you do what you want with two clicks in Trapcode’s Starglow?
