  • Puppet Tool Overlap “in front” value linked to an expression slider is not working in CC

So, I’m setting up a puppet rig and would like to have a slider that controls the overlap amount of each arm in the puppet tool effect but so far it’s not working. I’m using Duik to create IK for the arms, as well as quick null objects placed at the hands of each arm.

At a point in the animation I need to have my puppet’s arms reach from behind, then animate the overlap “in front” amount to be in front of the character’s torso. I can achieve this by adjusting the Overlap In Front value on the layer it’s applied, but for efficiency I would like to have this value controlled by an expression slider placed on the null objects which control the arms of the puppet…or perhaps a master null.

I’ve included the code I’m using now, and I can see the value change in the timeline but nothing is reflected in the composition window. I’ve cleared cache a number of times as well and restarted.

Can someone give me some guidance/suggestions, or confirm that this is broken in CC?

Note: the null object is named C_B_front left hand pin (created by DUIK), and the expression slider is named L_Arm_Overlap which is applied to that null.

    thisComp.layer("C_B_front left hand pin").effect("L_Arm_Overlap")("Slider")

I’m alas having the same problem, googled it and found your post.

I guess I’ll submit a bug report and just keyframe it like a chump

Same here! Also found this searching for an answer, also using DUIK. It’s even glitchy when keyframing manually (no slider).
