Mastering Layout Expression
Hello,
Im trying to set up a mastering project for people to use. this will be for the end boards on a TV channel. It will be a combination of CompsFromSpreadsheet to After Effects to Premiere. Im trying to improve workflow but I have one particular issue I can’t figure out.
The end boards have variations of one, two and three line titles, one and two line TX info and the option for a brand new/premiere. Here is my problem – The text is vertically centred and because there are different font weights, colours and sizes it needs to be in three different text layers. Without having to go in and manually move these layers to the centre of the screen each time is there an expression that will allow it to always be centred no matter what the variation is?
any help would be much appreciated.

I believe that using the following Expression in the Position prop of a Text Layer should do the trick –
[width/2,height/2]
This of course requires that Text Layer’s paragraphing is set to center.

Thanks for your reply. Ive applied that expression to the position and all it seems to do is lock the anchor point. If my initial set up has a 1 line title and I add a 2 line title instead it still wont adjust the position to be vertically centred if that makes sense.

Hi Andrew, I see what you mean. CTRL+ALT+HOME centers the Anchor Point in the Comp Panel. I think this keystroke is required, in addition to the earlier Expression, once the text string is applied to the Text Layer.
For an automated solution, you’ll likely get a better reply from the COW’s AE Expressions Forum.
