  • How can I create rolling DVD discs like on those exercise infomercials?

Posted by Zeno Pierre on October 27, 2010 at 4:17 am

    Hi, All,

I wanted to create rolling discs with a photo on it and have it roll onto the t.v. screen like in those exercise (P 90 X) infomercials on late night television. Does anyone know of a rule of thumb, guideline, manual or video tutorial on the subject?

    Thanks for your help.

What are you having difficulty with?
To get rolling discs, you would create disc images in Photoshop (front and back), place them in your scene, parent one end to the other, and then animate the position and rotation of the disc layers.

If you wanted to have a bit more fun, you could add a reflection layer to the disc shape and have it set to do everything except for rotate on its z axis.

P90X was done in 3d, but Insanity and TurboJam were done in after effects. Just be careful with motion blur in ae. It can cause issues with the two layers (front and back). Also, reflections can only be faked in ae, which is why p90x was done in 3D.

I’m actually doing all the 3d/ graphics for the next show right now
