AE switching language version
How to switch the language version of After Effects?
There are various answers to this question around and about on the web, but I’ve still to find a satisfactory answer. Since I’m now living in Germany and writing scripts and expressions that need to function in English, German and a variety of other languages, I need a version of After Effects whose language I can switch. Currently I’m hobbling by on CS3 running in German and CS4 and 5 running in english
The most reliable method seems to be creating a de_DE.txt file in After Effects/Package Contents/Contents/Resources/AMTLanguages but lately this will prompt After Effects to ask you to enter a new serial number.
Is this how it is supposed to be? This makes it nearly impossible for writers of AE scripts who want to span borders.
Incidentally, Lloyds method for switching as detailed in the FAQ over at aescripts has never worked for me (I wish it did – it’s so simple!) and nor does myleniums ae_force_english.txt in the User/Documents directory.
I’d love to get to the bottom of this once and for all, because it really is a hindrance to a smooth global workflow.
Thanks in advance if you can help.
PS I’m on a Mac running OSX 10.5 and 10.6. Would love to know a working solution for PC too.
