  • contorling layer visibility with an expression control

    Hey Guys,

I’m working on a project that has a lot of 3d layers in it and its slowing down after effects quite a bit. Iv been turning off the visibility on each of the layers that im not working on at the moment then turn them back on to ram preview the animation. I was wondering if there is a way to connect the layers visibility to an expression control so i can just hit one switch and all the layers that i dont need would turn off all at once. I tried connecting the layers opacity to a slider control on an adjustment layer but it didn’t help after effects run any faster, the layers eyeball switch has to be off for it to work.

Is there anyway to control a layers visibility like that with an expression?

    thanks,
    Jon

No, you can’t do it with an expression, but you could cook up a script that would do it. In fact, Lloyd Alvarez’s Zorro script might be just what you need:

This is a nice script but I have a lot of precomps in my comp and this script doesn’t seem to support precomps and I don’t really want to open each comp and select the layers manually.
My question, is there a similar script which works with precomps?

    thanks

    Hey Dieter

I’m using AE CS3 and the script works just fine on the precomps. Mabey try reloading the script.
