  • How to make camera z pos affect motion tile correctly

    Hi all

    I need to do a pull out from a single image until the screen is filled with images and then pull back through a logo (that’s now filled with the tiled images) to the final title card.

    To do this, rather than use a massive comp with loads of images in it, or even a still filled with load of images, I’d like to use motion tile.

    My question is: how do I attach motion tile’s width and height settings to the camera’s Z position so that it all pulls back smoothly. If the camera pulls back in one set of keyframes and the motion tile has it’s own keyframes, the whole thing looks dodgy because the movements are not identical.

    I hope that makes sense… It’s a little difficult to articulate this morning as my little girl dug her teeth into my skull during play time and my head is still throbbing 🙁

    Thanks in advance for any help.

    Try this expression for Tile Width and Tile Height:

    nomDist = -888.9;
    (nomDist/thisComp.activeCamera.position[2])*100

    Set the first value to the camera’s initial z coordinate (where you want one image to fill the screen).

    Hi Dan

    Sorry about the long delay in replying. I’ve been doing 15/16 hour days since I posted and am just now getting my head above water.

    I’m going to give this a try now.

    Thanks so much for the swift response and the expression!
