Hi all, I’m very new to AE but thanks to the Tutorials here and on Video Co Pilot.net I’m learning very quickly.

Plus, about 10 years ago I left the entertainment field and got into computer programming, so I think I should be able to pick up the expressions pretty quickly – I’m not scared of them at all – in fact I embrace them [because I’m lazy!!! 😉 – if you ask me, all good programmers are lazy ]

BTW, anyone have any suggestions for a good reference book for AE Expressions? You know, not a how to book that one would read front to back or anything – a reference book like the O’Reilly “in a nutshell” type of book…

    But I digress….

    Preface:
I’m sure that this would be much easier / quicker and probably better looking to do in a 3-D program, but as a programmer, I’m thinking that there may be an out of the box way to achieve something close to what I want……

What I want to do is very similar to a tutorial I found here on the cow (it animates a camera down a path, which happens to be a road):

    https://library.creativecow.net/articles/gerard_rick/AEWeekly1.php

However the road doesn’t have any hills – it’s perfectly flat (of course it is, it’s a 2-d path).

How would I go about achieving the same effect except with hills in the road – a twisting turning, dipping and climbing road? (Don’t care about any landscape on either side of the road – just the road itself.)

I first posted this on the AE forum, and someone gave me a good suggestion for how to add hills just to the terrain but the road (path) that the camera travels down would still be 2-D – twisting left and right but not climbing any hills or dipping into any valley’s.. My post was then moved to the Video-Co-pilot’s forum (I guess because I mentioned the site in my post – like I did above – hope this one doesn’t get moved). And it seems that there’s no momentum for my question anymore.. 🙂 Therefore I wanted to ask you fine folk if you could think out of the box (like you probably do all the time!!!) and see if you could come up with a way for me to make my path to be a 3-Dish path (again, I don’t care about the landscape on either side of the road – just the road / path itself…)

Thanks for any help offered! (I sincerely hope to get good enough to be helpful to others fairly soon!)

Just thought that I’d let everyone know that I didn’t come up with an AE solution – (but as I get to know AE better – I’m stuborn enough to play around with some ideas of my own..)

Anyway, I’m learning Blender 3D to accomplish what I want to do.. (Going slow, but not too bad – still on schedule!)
